Since 2005, Google.org has worked to extend the reach of innovators and connect them with a unique blend of support that includes funding, tools, and volunteers from Google. These innovators are the believers-turned-doers who have made the biggest impact on the communities they represent, and whose work has the potential to produce meaningful change that can scale. Though each project poses a fresh challenge, Google.org asks the same question every time: “How can it bring the best of Google to power their work and accelerate their progress?”
In South Africa, Google.org is supporting Impact Amplifier to develop a series of interventions to support the digital skills ecosystem. Over the last five years the demand and supply of digital skills in South Africa has rapidly increased. However, there is a material gap between the skills needed by the market and those being produced by the various training organisations.
In addition to this gap, certain digital skills offer a unique opportunity to leverage low income people marginalised by access to formal education out of poverty. To address these issues, Impact Amplifier will be providing business / capacity development to 10 digital skills organisations to adapt their training toward market demand and linking their graduates to high value job opportunities.
