Impact Acceleration Associate: Job Description
Impact Amplifier is a for-profit accelerator and consulting firm. Our mission is to support the growth of innovative businesses, with high social and environmental impact in Africa, through business development assistance and capital provision.
The Impact Acceleration Associate will function as a generalist within the Company. The role will encompass the following, but is not limited to:
I. Supporting Partners on investment readiness deals when required, including:
Research or due diligence as part of the business case process and working with post graduate fellows on aspects of these activities. Developing capacity in business advisory and capital raising by assisting the Partners to write investment cases, developing growth strategies, funding case documentation for the portfolio of companies, and building financial models and plans.
II. Project management/ client co-ordination – driving the internal and external investment/ grant readiness and capital raising acceleration process either individually or as a group, including for investment readiness programmes:
Putting out calls for applications using partner networks, screening applications, shortlisting and, together with the internal or external partners, selecting participants in accelerator programmes.
Ensuring that the content and curricula for both internal and external programmes and modules are updated with new content, examples and templates as needed.
Managing milestones around the needs of entrepreneurs and changing workflows, co-ordinating meetings and workshops.
Overseeing the mentorship process on accelerator programmes to ensure mentors and mentees engage as required, and that all participants in the programme are mentored properly and to deadlines.
Managing third party engagement: liaising, invoicing, payments, reporting and budget where necessary. Developing proposals, together with the Partners, on new workshops, bootcamps, programmes as requested.
III. Co-ordinating and participating in primary and secondary market research activities, including:
Research of the impact investment ecosystem in South Africa and other countries in
Market research and due diligence as required to support investment readiness / deals.
Ethical supply chain research and impact assessments for large corporations.
Africa to better understand the gaps, opportunities and need for new products and services.
Other research as requested by external organisations and new clients. May include Overseeing research projects as assigned to interns within the Company.
identifying relevant tenders and submitting proposals.
IV. Building pipeline of new business development, including:
Attending events to network and raise awareness of the Company.
Developing content for, and maintaining its website and social media channels. Assessment of companies that apply to programmes as well as individually to identify potential new clients, share with the Partners and assist in decision to offer support based on their impact, business stage and readiness for capital raising.
A Bachelors degree is the minimum qualification. The job is well suited for someone with experience in research, business development, management consulting or similar related functions. An understanding of impact investing and social enterprise is useful, but not essential. Good co-ordination and project management skills are a must have to manage different activities dynamically and within deadlines, and the incumbent must be a self-starter, able to work on their own, although under supervision. Most important is a passion for the field. Candidates of colour will be given preference.
Salary range: R18,000 per month total cost to company, subject to negotiation.
